Pediatrics
“When I started working with children, I suddenly felt very much at home.”
I considered many specialties when I was in medical school, but when I started working with children, I suddenly felt very much at home.
For me, communication is a huge part of being a good doctor, and so I try to be a good listener and teacher. Communication is an especially interesting challenge in pediatrics, as I interact with patients from a broad range of ages. From tiny infants to teenagers, new parents to 2-year-olds, every patient brings a unique perspective and different ways of expressing concerns.
It’s rewarding to watch my patients grow. Seeing 9-year-old patients I met as newborns makes my career worthwhile. When I am not at work caring for children, I am being a mom to two ridiculously lovely little people of my own. This makes it very easy for me to relate to other parents.
