I got into medicine because it is an endlessly fascinating field, and I chose pediatrics because working with kids is so much fun. You get to watch your patients grow. Kids get sick fast, but they also get well fast. Children are the best patients, and I am really lucky to be a pediatrician.
I am a parent to three wonderful adult children, and I feel this helps me understand how to interact with my patients. Each child is unique, and each child has a set of interests that are very important to him or her. I can also relate to my patients' parents because I understand the challenges and rewards of raising a child. I approach patients and families with an open ear, listening and attending to their specific needs. The best part of my job is when I'm able to make a difference in a child's life — there's nothing more rewarding than that.
