Jerome Murphy, MD

  • Jerome Linus Murphy
  • “I practice medicine as it was done for hundreds of years: through face-to-face dialogue.”

I practice medicine as it was done for hundreds of years: through face-to-face dialogue. Direct communication is the best way to hear and respond to parents' concerns. All of the computer typing and clicking can wait until after I leave the room.

I see patients who have been referred to me by their pediatricians, but my relationship is with the patient and the family. Many kidney conditions are chronic, so my role is to teach, advise and prescribe but also to listen, answer, counsel and offer support in chronic cases. I am fluent in Spanish, so communication with Spanish-speaking families requires no translators.

My childhood experiences with my six younger siblings, one of whom had special needs, led me to choose a pediatric career. I knew I wanted to be a doctor when I was 12 years old. Childhood is a special time in life, and I work with parents toward a mutual goal: getting an ill child back to being "just a regular kid."
