I chose pediatrics because I feel like the fun parts of medicine are all within pediatrics. Playing, singing songs and giving out stickers — you don't get to do that with adults. Children are so great to work with. They're so much fun! They bring out the child in me.

As often as possible, I try to let children sit in their parent's laps while they're being examined. I also try to let kids participate in the visit as much as they want. I work closely with parents and consider care to be a collaborative process. There's not always one right way to do things, so I offer options and confer with my patients' parents. I make sure to provide them all the information and tools they need to make the best possible choices.

I have two young children, so I understand the challenges of being a working parent. Caring for children isn't just about looking after their physical health — we also must monitor their emotional, psychological and behavioral growth. I want families to know I'm here for them.
