About our care teams

What is a Pediatric Endocrinologist?

A Pediatric Endocrinologist is a physician who treats children with diabetes and other endocrine gland disorders.

What is a Nurse Practitioner?

A Nurse Practitioner is a provider who independently provides care to patients in our Diabetes and Endocrinology clinics.  Our NP staff are also CDEs and have longer appointment times to allow for diabetes education.

What is a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE)?

A CDE is a health professional who possesses comprehensive knowledge of and experience in Type 1 Diabetes, Type 2 Diabetes, and pre-diabetes. The CDE educates and supports people affected by diabetes to understand and manage the condition. A CDE promotes self-management to achieve individualized behavioral and treatment goals that optimize health outcomes.  You will meet with a CDE if you are newly diagnosed with diabetes, have issues with troubleshooting blood sugars and/or devices. You can also reach our CDEs by calling our CDE line.

What is a Registered Dietician (RD)/Nutritionist?

An RD can give you more information about eating for a healthy lifestyle, eating for optimal sports performance and eating to gain or lose weight.  If you have Diabetes, our RDs can help you master carbohydrate counting and help you understand how different types of foods affect blood sugar.
