What to Expect During Your Child’s Sports Performance Appointment

During the first visit, your child will undergo a thorough assessment appointment that takes between 90 and 120 minutes.

What to expect during the appointment

During the appointment, you and your child should expect:

  • An initial physical therapy evaluation to assess strength and motion.
  • A few minutes to change into shorts and a shirt made from skintight Spandex and don a headband, all provided by us. (We have a full range of sizes.) The shorts, shirt, and headband are outfitted with reflective markers on the head, torso, arms, and legs.
  • A jogging or walking warm-up.
  • A recorded testing protocol in which athletes are asked to perform increasingly challenging sports-related movements.

How to prepare for the appointment

Before visiting the lab, please:

  • Arrive 15 minutes before your appointment to ensure adequate time at check-in.
  • Bring insurance information and identification.
  • Bring clean, well-fitting athletic shoes.
  • If you need to bring more than three people to the appointment, please call first to ensure there’s enough space.
  • If there are questions and concerns you or your child would like answered during the visit, feel free to bring a list.
  • Be prepared for a workout, although we will, of course, adjust what is asked of each individual based on ability and safety.
