Nurse practitioners from the departments of Neurosurgery and Craniofacial Surgery and pediatric Plastic Surgery work together to diagnose, treat and follow children with plagiocephaly and other craniofacial anomalies.

Meet your Packard Children’s care providers:

Melissa Ballard, RN, MS, PNP

Melissa is a pediatric nurse practitioner (PNP), specializing in the care of hospitalized children with an emphasis in the acute care setting. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from San Francisco State University and a Master of Science in Nursing from U.C. San Francisco.

Bob Patterson, Certified Orthotist
Bob Patterson, CO is a board certified orthotist with extensive experience in treating children and adults with spinal cord injuries, congenital and genetic disorders, acute fractures and orthopedic problems. For the past fifteen years, he has specialized in treating infants who have cranial asymmetry with custom molded helmets and is a California Children's Services paneled orthotist.

Elena Hopkins, RN, MS, CPNP

Elena Hopkins is a certified pediatric nurse practitioner with extensive experience working with craniofacial patients in the acute and ambulatory setting. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of San Francisco, and a Master of Science degree from Boston College.  Elena is also an RN First Assistant in the Operating Room, receiving certification from UCLA.
