Adult Congenital Heart Program Patient Stories

Exceptional lifelong care for congenital heart disease takes a trusted, team approach – Meet Kilan, a patient who received care from us as a toddler and still sees us today, in her early 20s. Kilan participated in our Transition Clinic, which empowered her to fully understand her disease. In doing so, she says, she is able to trust her care and focus on what she can do rather than what she cannot. Kilan is now a recent college graduate in excellent health.

Expert heart care empowers Uduak to take her life back – The heart care provided by the ACHD adult providers at Stanford allowed Uduak to take her life back and return to the things she loves, like gardening, painting, and running. Born with a structural heart defect called Tetralogy of Fallot, Uduak underwent multiple corrective surgeries early in life. In her 50s, she turned to the ACHD Program at Stanford after not getting the care she needed elsewhere. Here, she found expert physicians and staff who listened to her and empowered her to continue crafting her life’s story.
