Noninvasive Intestinal Monitoring

New ways to diagnose and monitor motility disorders

Currently, in order to diagnose GERD and other motility disorders, specialists have to place uncomfortable diagnostic tubes through the nose and into the stomach. The esophageal and dysmotility group is working with an experimental technology, developed by G-Tech Medical, that uses wearable attachments to monitor small electrical signals in the muscular coat of the intestines. Dr. Wall’s research group is studying the use of this technology to diagnose GERD and postoperative intestinal dysmotility. The goal is to ultimately provide a less invasive solution for both diagnosing and monitoring motility disorders.
