I understand parents' concerns about the radiation that's required for much of medical imaging, and I appreciate their advocacy for the health and well-being of their child. I also understand the importance of getting the best possible image quality for diagnosis and treatment. My goal is to provide the optimal balance between using the least possible amount radiation for imaging and having sufficient image quality to answer diagnostic and treatment questions.

I have been committed, through research and education, to this issue for decades. I was the chair of the Image Gently Alliance, an internationally acclaimed nonprofit organization whose mission is to advocate for the safe and effective imaging of children around the world. Efforts include educating parents and doctors about amounts of radiation used in imaging, the potential health risks of that radiation (if any) and steps that can be taken to use only the amount of radiation that is necessary.

I want to be an advocate for kids and those that care for them. I hope to help patients, their parents and their healthcare providers understand the value of the procedure, what's going to happen during the procedure, and steps that we all can take to have it be as safe and meaningful as possible.
