Pediatric Inherited Cardiovascular Disorders Program

If your child was born with cardiovascular (heart and/or blood vessel) disease, you may wonder if it was due to a genetic condition that was passed down in your family. In our Pediatric Inherited Cardiovascular Disorders program at Stanford Medicine Children’s Health, we can help you find the answer and create a road map for next steps. We provide in-depth genetic testing and counseling for all inherited cardiovascular disorders that may be affecting your child and family. Our specialized teams at the Betty Irene Moore Children’s Heart Center partner with Stanford Health Care to coordinate expert care for infants, children, and adults with a confirmed or suspected inherited cardiovascular disorder. Our ultimate goal is to empower you to improve the health of your child and your family.

Why choose Stanford Children’s Health’s cardiovascular genetics program for your child’s hereditary heart disorder

  • Holistic, coordinated approach to inherited cardiovascular disorders. Through sophisticated genetic testing, genetic counseling, and cardiology screening, we can help you identify the cause of your child’s heart or blood vessel disorder and explain what it means for the child and your family. Additionally, we can support your whole family through our close collaboration with the Center for Inherited Cardiovascular Disease at Stanford Hospital (the adult hospital). Our coordinated, family-centered approach makes us unique in the local area and can benefit your immediate and extended family tremendously by helping you detect heart conditions earlier and identify family members who may be at risk.
  • Highly specialized team of heart doctors and genetic counselors. Our program’s genetic counselors and pediatric cardiologists are specialized in inherited cardiovascular conditions and can provide valuable guidance to your child and family with an inherited heart or blood vessel disorder. Our team works hand-in-hand with other heart experts within our Moore Children’s Heart Center who treat children with heart disease—from simple to highly complex—to develop a personalized treatment plan for your child. Our partner heart programs include:

  • Comprehensive support for your child with an inherited heart or vascular condition. We are here to support all your child’s heart needs. We can connect you to other noncardiac providers as needed, such as our Genetics program for disorders that impact other body systems, and help coordinate complex care needs for your child, and we are often your first call with questions. In other words, we help support your child’s needs beyond genetics with access to our whole Heart Center.
  • Care at the leading edge of medicine and research. We provide you with access to cutting-edge knowledge and research from related areas across Stanford Medicine, which can mean innovative new care options for your child or the chance for your child to participate in a clinical trial.
