Nationally ranked pediatric gastroenterologists. Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford is ranked as one of the nation’s top 10 children’s hospitals, including a national ranking in Gastroenterology and Gastrointestinal (GI) Surgery by U.S. News & World Report.
Treatments for highly complex needs. We specialize in treating children with high-risk conditions who require multifaceted expertise and provide access to the most advanced liver support and heart care available in the country. Despite the fact that we see a large number of children with complex needs, our care outcomes are among the best on the West Coast.

Pediatric specialty programs

Under each specialty, we offer programs with experts who subspecialize in your child’s specific condition. Our 12 specialty programs include:

Pediatric advanced endoscopy: Many hospitals rely on adult-trained gastroenterologists to perform advanced endoscopic, minimally invasive procedures. However, our doctors are board certified in both gastroenterology (GI) and pediatrics, providing care expressly for children. Our program is unique in that we employ advanced endoscopists and offer a dedicated GI bleeding team that treats upper gastrointestinal bleeding with an expert, multipronged approach. In addition to standard esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) and colonoscopy, our advanced endoscopic capabilities include:
- Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
- Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)
- Endoscopic ultrasound fine needle aspiration (EUS-FNA)
- Endoscopic stent placements
- Endoscopic resections
- Enteroscopy
- Upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) treatment
Pediatric endoscopy: Our expert endoscopy center is dedicated to treating pediatric patients of all ages in need of an endosopy.
Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center: This premier pediatric care center provides evidence-based, family-centered, individualized, interdisciplinary, and one-of-a-kind care to children with pediatric IBD conditions.
Celiac program: Full-spectrum care and education around symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of pediatric celiac disease.
GI integrative medicine: The only pediatric integrative GI program on the West Coast to offer complementary therapies to medical interventions.
Pancreas program: nationally recognized interdisciplinary team of experts dedicated to caring for children with chronic and acute pancreatic disease.
Esophageal Disorders Clinic: Specialized pediatric program that provides groundbreaking treatments for disorders of the esophagus, including motility problems.
Aerodigestive and Airway Reconstruction Center: Advanced, streamlined care for children with disorders of the airway, esophagus, and upper gastrointestinal tract.

Hepatology is the study, diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the liver, gallbladder, biliary tree, and pancreas. Our hepatology program offers access to specialized clinics, state-of-the-art research trials, and engagement in national societies for the advancement of care for pediatric patients.

Alagille Syndrome Program: A top-three center in North America that brings together world pediatric Alagille experts to offer innovative and effective multiorgan treatments for this rare condition.
Liver Transplant Program: A part of our top-performing national Pediatric Transplant Center, this dedicated program carries out more liver transplants than most or all centers in the western United States, with exceptional outcomes.
Single Ventricle Program: The only program of its kind on the West Coast to provide multidisciplinary, holistic care that optimizes health and well-being, empowering children with single ventricle anomalies to live their fullest lives.

Intestinal Rehabilitation and Nutrition Support program: Leading experts who treat complex intestinal conditions, including short bowel syndrome and nutritional challenges in children.
Children’s Home Pharmacy: Dedicated pediatric home infusion pharmacy that provides comprehensive nutritional therapies (enteral, TPN, etc.) and personalized education to families of children with complex conditions.
Center for Healthy Weight: A comprehensive program that prevents and treats overweight and obesity in children and adolescents.
