Visiting Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford

At Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford, we know that family and friends are an important part of each patient’s healing experience. As part of our commitment to family-centered care, we welcome visitors and encourage families to spend as much time together as possible in our hospital.

For children, two parents, legal guardians or other adult caregivers are allowed to be in the hospital at all times unless there is a safety or patient care concern. Siblings and friends are also welcome; we ask that they follow these guidelines.

Safety and the well-being of our patients is our top priority. As a parent, you will receive a visiting badge when your child is admitted. Hospital visitors must check in at the main lobby Information Desk to receive an identification badge.

Expectant women delivering their baby in the Johnson Pregnancy and Newborn Center may have up to three visitors in their labor and delivery room at any time, following these guidelines. New mothers may also enjoy having family and friends come to meet their newborn in our Maternity Unit, following these guidelines.

Visiting Hours

• 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Quiet Hours

• 9 p.m. to 8 a.m.

Visitors under the age of 18 may not remain in the hospital after 9 p.m. unless they are the parents of a patient.

Overnight Stay

In the Maternity Unit, one adult primary support person may stay overnight if the patient is in a private room. In a shared room, both families must provide verbal permission for a nurse to allow any support persons to stay overnight.

In the pediatric general care units, two parents or legal guardians may stay in the room at the discretion of the nurse if the patient is in a single room. Otherwise, when possible, bedside sleeping facilities are provided for one parent or adult designee.

For parents who aren’t able to sleep at the patient’s bedside, a social worker can assist you in coordinating alternate sleeping arrangements. If you’re assigned to sleep in a parent lounge, we ask that you vacate with your belongings by 8 am each morning.

Fire codes prohibit sleeping in alcoves, corridors or open public areas.

General Care Floors - 3 people

PICU/CVICU - 3 people

Labor and Delivery - 3 people
Note: Labor and Delivery patients may have visitors at any time.

Maternity - 2 people

NICU/IICN/PSCN - 2 people, one of whom must be the patient's parent or designee

PACU/Same Day Surgery - 2 parents or adult designees in Pre-Op and PACU

Stem Cell Transplant - 2 immediate family members

Hospital Visitor ID Badges

As part of our commitment to ensuring a safe environment for everyone, we use a photo identification (ID) badge system which helps us know the names and faces of those who are visiting the mothers and children in our care. Everyone who comes into the hospital will be given a photo ID badge each day. This includes all family members, visitors and business professionals.

Children under the age of 14 will have a badge with the photo and name of their parent or supervising adult. Inpatients receive a medical ID bracelet from the medical team caring for them.

Information and photographs obtained for and stored in the visitor ID badge system will be treated as confidential within the organization and will be shared externally as required by law.

Health and Safety First

To maintain the healthiest environment possible and to avoid infection of patients, visitors may be screened for contagious diseases. Please do not bring any children who display signs of contagious diseases or who have been exposed to measles or chicken pox.

Please note, Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital has a “No Latex Balloon Policy”  as they have been found to pose a serious safety risk for children. Specific safety risks include allergic reactions and or choking hazards.
