Treatment and Services

Patients diagnosed with Kawasaki disease may receive the following initial treatments:

  • Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) to relieve acute inflammation and reduce the incidence of coronary artery aneurysms
  • Aspirin to reduce inflammation and reduce fever
  • Echocardiography to monitor the heart and coronary arteries

In addition, the Stanford Medicine Children’s Health Kawasaki Disease Clinic offers echocardiogram surveillance of coronary arteries; adjustments to blood thinners, aspirin, or other medications; and assessment of other monitoring or management needs.
