Joepfrey Miguel Alvarez, PharmD

PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy Resident

Dr. Alvarez obtained his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2022. During pharmacy school, he worked as a pharmacy intern for CVS and later as a pharmacy intern at SSM Health DePaul in Missouri. He completed his fourth year clinical rotations in Illinois and Missouri at Springfield Memorial, HSHS St. Elizabeth’s, Belleville Memorial, and Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital. He recently completed his PGY1 pharmacy residency at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford and has stayed on as the PGY2 Critical Care resident.

His professional interests include pediatric cardiovascular critical care, nutrition, and infectious diseases. He enjoys exercising, cooking, playing bass guitar, hiking, spending time with friends and family, traveling, and meeting new people.

Jafar Essayli, PharmD

PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy Resident

Dr. Essayli received his Bachelor of Science degree in Human Biology from the University of California, San Diego and his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Southern California. During his time in pharmacy school, he was a pharmacy intern in the inpatient and specialty outpatient pharmacies at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. As a fourth-year pharmacy school student, he completed his clinical rotations at Huntington Hospital, VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System, Kaiser Permanente Pasadena, USC School of Pharmacy, and St. John’s Community Health.

His professional interests include general pediatrics and academia. During his free time, Jafar enjoys exploring new coffee and tea shops, cooking, watching travel vlogs, trying new restaurants, and ice skating.

Daniel Trisno, PharmD

PGY2 Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Resident

Dr. Trisno received his Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of California, Irvine and his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore. During his time as a pharmacy student, he was a pharmacy intern at Johns Hopkins Hospital in the pediatric department. He completed his clinical rotations at the University of Maryland Medical Center, University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health, and Maryland Poison Center. He recently completed his PGY1 pharmacy residency at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford and has stayed on as the PGY2 infectious diseases resident.

His professional interests include infectious diseases and ASP. In his free time, Daniel enjoys exercising, hiking, playing piano, and cooking.

Emily Duong, PharmD

Dr. Duong received her Bachelor of Science degree in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior from the University of California, Davis and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Touro University California. During pharmacy school, she worked as a pharmacy intern at Walgreens Specialty in San Francisco, CA. She completed two years of clinical rotations in the Bay Area, CA at various institutions including Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford, San Francisco General Hospital, and various Kaiser Permanente locations.

Her professional interests include transitions of care, oncology, and teaching. In her free time, Emily enjoys trying new foods and boba spots, searching for new hiking spots, and recreating different coffee recipes.

Gina Kim, PharmD

Dr. Kim earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychobiology from University of California, Los Angeles and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from University of Southern California in 2023. Throughout her time in pharmacy school, she worked as a pharmacy intern at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. She completed her fourth-year rotations at LAC+USC Medical Center, Children’s Hospital of Orange County, and Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach.

Her professional interests are general pediatrics and hematology/oncology. During her free time, Gina enjoys relaxing at the beach, swimming, riding rollercoasters, traveling, eating as well as learning new recipes, and various outdoor activities such as hiking and playing pickleball.

Wesley Nguyen, PharmD

Dr. Nguyen received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from San Jose State University and his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of California, San Francisco. During pharmacy school, he worked as the lead intern at the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center. He completed his third-year clinical rotations at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford, Stanford Health Care, and the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center.

His professional interests include hematology oncology and stem cell transplant. In his free time, Wesley enjoys playing basketball, going to concerts, and exploring new places to eat.

Mitesh Patel, PharmD

Dr. Patel completed his prerequisite course work at the University of South Carolina and earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. During pharmacy school, he interned at Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital. He completed his fourth-year clinical rotations at Emory University Hospital, the Cleveland Clinic, and various sites throughout the greater South Carolina area.

His professional interests include critical care, general pediatrics, and nutrition. In his free time, Mitesh enjoys exploring local eateries, working on jigsaw puzzles, and traveling.

Annie Xie, PharmD

Dr. Xie earned her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacology and Drug Development from University of Southern California in 2019 and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from University of California, San Francisco in 2023. She worked as a pharmacy intern at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford during pharmacy school and is continuing as a current PGY1 resident. She completed her third-year clinical rotations at Valley Children’s Healthcare, Kaiser Permanente, and other sites throughout the Central Valley.

Her professional interests include pediatric critical care and nutrition. During her free time, she enjoys going to the farmer's market and trying new food with friends and family.

Erica Wong, PharmD

Dr. Wong earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology and Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from Mercer University, Macon, Georgia, in 2019. She completed her Doctor of Pharmacy from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Suwannee, Georgia, in 2023. Throughout pharmacy school, she worked as a pharmacy intern at Publix Pharmacy and Emory University Hospital. She completed her fourth-year rotations at various hospitals throughout Georgia at Emory Hospitals, Piedmont Atlanta, Northeast Georgia Medical Center, and Atlanta Neuroscience Institute.

Her professional interests include pediatrics, general acute care, critical care, and executive leadership. Erica enjoys volunteering, learning new languages, and spending time with friends and family during her free time.
