What are stress fractures?

Stress fractures are tiny cracks in the bone. An athlete may not know they have a stress fracture, but rather think it is intense soreness. If ignored, stress fractures develop into larger fractures putting the body at risk for greater injury.

What can cause a stress fracture?

  • Repetitive forces, like those caused by running and jumping

What are some symptoms of stress fractures?

  • Increased pain, even at rest
  • Swelling around painful area
  • Tenderness at specific spot
