Our Office of Patient/Family Education and Health Literacy with support from our gastroenterology and surgery teams created this series of videos. These educational videos are about G-tubes that fit close to the skin, called either a MIC-KEY or a MiniOne® tube.
The videos will provide you with the information you need to:
1. Introduction: A brief review of what a G-tube is and what the videos will talk about.
2. Cleaning the Site: Instructions on how to clean the G-tube site and signs of infection.
3. Flushing and Cleaning: Reviews how to flush and clean the G-tube and the tubing.
4. Checking the Fit and Water in the Balloon: A guide to help you tell if the G-tube is fitting correctly and how to make sure the right amount of water is in the G-tube balloon.
5. Managing Activities: Reviews ways to keep your child safe and comfortable while they move and play with a G-tube.
6. Ordering Supplies: Reviews ordering G-tube supplies for home.
7. When to Call the Healthcare Provider or Go to the Emergency Department: Explains common reasons to call your care team or seek emergency care.
8. Managing Redness and Irritation: Teaches how to care for redness and irritation of the skin around the G-tube.
9. Managing Leaking: Reviews how to manage leaking of stomach liquid around the G-tube.
10. Preventing and Managing Blocked or Clogged G-Tubes: Explains how to prevent a G-tube from becoming blocked or clogged, and what to do if the G-tube is blocked or clogged.
11. Managing Bleeding: Shows ways to manage bleeding around the G-tube.
12. Managing a Gassy Stomach: Reviews how to remove air or gas in the stomach (vent).
13. Managing Granulation: Talks about granulation tissue and ways that you can help care for it.
14. Managing Situations When the G-Tube Comes Out: Explains what to do if the G-tube comes out of the body.
15. Changing the G-Tube: Reviews the steps of how to change a G-tube.
