Our Services

The following services enhance your care journey with us and empower us to provide you with the highest level of pregnancy care.

Prepregnancy counseling for the best outcomes

Before you move forward with your pregnancy plans, we recommend that you receive pre-conception counseling to ensure a lower-risk pregnancy and better outcomes for you and your baby.

With our pre-conception counseling, you can expect:

  • Comprehensive high-risk pregnancy and neurological evaluation.
  • Recommendations to improve your health before pregnancy. This can include adjustments to current treatments and lifestyle.
  • Guidance on contraception choices so you can plan your pregnancy when you are at your healthiest.

Expert pregnancy care to detect and manage any changes in health

  • Specialized, research-driven care to ensure the healthiest pregnancy possible. When you come to us for care, a Stanford Medicine Children’s Health maternal-fetal medicine (high-risk obstetrics) doctor and a Stanford Health Care adult neurologist will collaborate to provide you seamless, comprehensive pregnancy care. At our Stanford hospitals, you can expect the very latest care. Our highly specialized doctors actively conduct research to advance maternal, fetal, and neurology treatments through their work at Stanford Medicine.
  • Treatments and care to promote a strong start for your baby. Besides keeping a close eye on you, we keep a close eye on your unborn baby. We are trained to detect any problems, so you can expect careful monitoring of your symptoms and your baby’s growth and development throughout your pregnancy. Our doctors know what signs to watch for to keep your pregnancy progressing smoothly, and provide careful, expert diagnosis and treatment to achieve the best outcome possible. If we suspect that your baby may have a neurological problem, we work together with neonatologists and other pediatric specialists, as needed, to evaluate and create a plan to optimally support your baby’s health.
  • Comprehensive maternity care. During your stay, you will experience our high-quality maternity care provided by nurses who are specially trained to care for expectant and new mothers. You will be able to access a wide variety of patient and family services at Stanford Children’s. Our whole team strives to provide you with expert care, in a compassionate and family-centered manner. Specialized postpartum care

Our advanced care doesn’t stop after delivery, because some neurological disorders can flare up after pregnancy. For example, new mothers with epilepsy, stroke, multiple sclerosis, and similar neuro-autoimmune conditions are especially at risk later in pregnancy into the postpartum period. We continue to offer our expert care during the early months of life with your new baby to stabilize your symptoms and ensure safe ways to care for you and your baby.

Ask your obstetrician for a referral if you are seeking an evaluation from our Pregnancy Neurology Program.
