Pertussis Outbreak & New School Recommendation

Pertussis (whooping cough) has been on the rise in California. Immunization is the best way to control the spread of Pertussis. Because of the pertussis outbreak, a new immunization law was passed in California requiring all students entering grades 7 to 12 to show proof that they have received a pertussis booster (Tdap) vaccination. Pertussis is a very contagious respiratory infection that can be severe. The immunity received from early childhood begins to wear off over time, making older children and adults susceptible to pertussis again. Peninsula Pediatric Medical Group recommends administering the pertussis (Tdap) booster at 11 years old. If your child has not received his or her pertussis (Tdap) booster, or if you are unsure, please call our offices.
