Neuro-Ophthalmology Conditions and Services

Because the treatment of vision-related disease often overlaps with other specialties, many patients who find themselves in an ophthalmologist’s office will find that they are also asked to visit multiple other specialists, especially neurologists. These may also include neurosurgeons, oncologists, geneticists, immunologists, rheumatologists and endocrinologists. At the Neuro-Ophthalmology Clinic at Stanford Children’s Health, we pride ourselves in working across disciplines, and we emphasize teamwork and strong communication between specialists in order to achieve the best possible outcome and to reduce stress on children and their families. To best achieve this goal, we will assemble a multi-disciplinary neuro-ophthalmology team that will collaborate to develop a work-up and treatment plan for your child.

• Brain and eye tumors causing vision loss
• Cranial neuropathies causing double vision
• Demyelinating conditions affecting the eyes

• Increased intracranial pressure causing papilledema and vision loss

• Neonatal or childhood strokes causing visual field loss
