Our multidisciplinary pediatric trauma team draws on the expertise of Stanford Medicine researchers and physician-scientists to develop ways to prevent injuries and trauma and to better treat them when they happen.

Trauma Medical Director Stephanie Chao, MD, and others are also studying the impacts of gun laws on child and adolescent gun deaths.

Events

Mass Casualty Drill

On May 9, 2018, the pediatric trauma team participated in a combined Mass Casualty Drill with Stanford Health Care. The team triaged patients (who were really volunteers acting as if they were patients) arriving to the Emergency Department and assessed whether the patients needed surgery. We evaluated how this sudden wave of patients impacted the operating room and other operations to help make sure we’re ready for any future events.

EMS Community Day

On May 23, 2018, we hosted emergency medical services (EMS) providers from our community. The providers heard case study presentations from our providers, practiced splinting and tourniquet application and toured Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford.

Western Pediatric Trauma Conference

Stanford trauma physicians are regular presenters at the Western Pediatric Trauma Conference. In 2018, our physicians presented research on microsurgical reconstruction of traumatic extremity defects in the pediatric population, firearm violence and orthopedic management of multi-trauma patients.
