  • "I love to see children growing and blossoming into their true selves."

I felt a calling to be a pediatrician because all aspects of it appealed to me--I love to encourage choices for a lifetime of health and have important parenting discussions. I also enjoy solving the intriguing puzzle of a symptom, like a cough, that could come from many things. I also love singing silly songs and blowing bubbles!

I try to make visits to the pediatrician as fun as possible. Many parents tell me that their children pretend they are "Dr. Gerwein" and examine their ears, singing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Ear" in the same way that I do. I also try to encourage families to pay attention to healthy choices for their children, so they are less likely to get sick. I don't use antibiotics or other medicines unless they are truly needed, but instead try to watch carefully and let the body heal itself whenever it can. I love to see children growing and blossoming into their true selves. It's an honor to be able to make a difference in optimizing their health and vitality.
