Abbott Formula Recall

Stanford Medicine Children’s Health was told about a voluntary recall of powdered infant formulas Similac, Alimentum, and EleCare made by Abbott. A voluntary recall is when a company tells people to stop using their product because of a health concern. The recall of the formulas is because the product may have come into contact with bacteria called Cronobacter sakazakii or Salmonella Newport. Brands impacted include Similac, Alimentum, and EleCare.

What you need to do

You need to check if you have any Similac, Alimentum, or EleCare powdered infant formulas in your home. You can also check your formula lot numbers by going to similacrecall.com and following the directions on the website or call 1 (800) 986-8540 and ask to speak with a customer service representative. When you call, you can ask them about the recall and to help you check your formula lot number. If the formula you have is recalled, the formula will need to be switched to an alternative product. Contact your child’s primary care provider to assist you with this switch.
