Our Care Team

Bryan Drucker, MD

Bryan Drucker, MD, was raised in southern California but has made the Bay Area his true home. He attended Stanford University for college, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree with distinction in biological sciences. During his undergraduate years, he also did extensive research on new modalities of cancer treatment at Stanford University Medical Center. He then attended the University of California at San Francisco for medical school, where he continued to pursue his research interests in pediatric cardiac surgery, and then subsequently returned to Stanford for his pediatric residency training at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford.

Jesspreet Gowan, MD

Jesspreet Gowan, MD, received her B.A. in molecular and cell biology from University of California, Berkeley, and her M.S. in biophysics and physiology from Georgetown University. She attended medical school at Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed her pediatric residency at UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital. Dr. Gowan joined Pediatric Associates in 2015, and her special interests include general pediatrics, pediatric infectious diseases, vaccine education and obesity prevention. She is fluent in Punjabi. In her free time, she enjoys playing and taking walks with her labradoodle puppy, traveling and spending time with her friends and family.

Jenny Griswold, MD

Jenny Griswold, MD, grew up in Chicago, IL, and did her undergraduate studies at Northwestern University. She attended the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University and completed her internship and residency training at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago. She is board certified in pediatrics and is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Tobias Hays, MD

Tobias Hays, MD, grew up in Littleton, Colorado, before heading east to attend college at Dartmouth. As an undergrad, he split his time between the library (where he studied biochemistry/molecular biology) and the pool (where he was captain of the men's swimming and diving team). Dr. Hays was recently inducted into Dartmouth 's Athletic Hall of Fame for diving. After a stint in Boston doing cancer research, he returned to New Hampshire and Dartmouth Medical School, where he chose to pursue pediatrics.

Jerina Kapoor, MD

Jerina Kapoor, MD, completed her internship at New York Medical College and her pediatric residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey. Subsequently, she researched and worked in Infectious Diseases of Children, which is one of her many areas of interest. Since 1994, she is on the staff at Good Samaritan Hospital, San Jose, California. Dr. Kapoor is board certified in pediatrics and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Margaret Smyklo, MD

Margaret Smyklo, MD, graduated from University of California, Berkeley, with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. She completed medical school at University of California, Davis, and did her pediatric residency at Kaiser Permanente Oakland Medical Center. After working for several years at Kaiser, Dr. Smyklo did a fellowship in pediatric intensive care at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. She then returned to the Bay Area and worked for many years in pediatric intensive care units at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital San Francisco, Kaiser Permanente San Jose Medical Center and Good Samaritan Hospital. In 2013, Dr.Smyklo joined Pediatric Associates. She is board certified in pediatrics, and she enjoys meeting new families and their amazing children.

Nadereh Varamini, MD

Nadereh Varamini, MD, is board certified in pediatrics and is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She received her medical degree from University of Bordeaux II in France and completed her pediatric residency at the University of Missouri Children's Hospital. Dr. Varamini has been in practice since 1996. Before moving to the San Francisco Bay Area in 2000, Dr. Varamini enjoyed a private practice in Missouri, where she was also a clinical associate professor at the University of Missouri. She also served on the Advisory Council for Genetic Services for the state of Missouri.

Rita Zorian, MD

Rita Zorian, MD, received her medical degree from University of Montreal School of Medicine. While completing her pediatric residency at University of Montreal and St. Justine Hospital, she also conducted clinical research with the Department of Pediatric Neurology. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and is board certified in pediatrics. After being in private practice for six years in New Jersey, Dr. Zorian moved to the Bay Area, where she has been in private practice and on staff at Good Samaritan Hospital since 1997. She joined Pediatric Associates in 2009.

Carrie Kaufmann, MSN

Carrie Kaufmann, MSN, was born and raised in the Bay Area. She attended the University of San Francisco and received her Bachelor of Science and R.N. degree. Several years later she graduated from the University of California, San Francisco with a Master’s of Science and received her Pediatric Nurse Practitioner degree. In 2019 she completed a Fellowship in Integrative Medicine from the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona. She hopes to apply this valuable knowledge in the care of many pediatric patients. She currently works at Pediatric Associates as well as with Allergy & Asthma Associates of Northern California. Carrie is certified as an asthma educator. Her professional interests include developmental pediatrics, environmental and food allergies, and childhood asthma. When she is not at work or studying she enjoys being outdoors, reading, gardening and running.

Katherine Pope, RN, FNP-BC

Katherine Pope, RN, FNP-BC, fell in love with nursing while pursuing her undergraduate degree at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington. After volunteering for the Red Cross and community health centers in Mexico, she received her master of science degree in Advanced Community Health and International Nursing, and completed a post-master’s Family Nurse Practitioner program at the University of California, San Francisco. Pope is fluent in Spanish. She is passionate about working with families to help children reach their full potential.
