Pediatric Nutrition Center

As nutrition experts, we provide advanced pediatric nutrition to promote your child’s growth and development by meeting his or her nutritional needs. Our nutrition team is composed of physicians and dedicated, specialized dietitians who are embedded in our gastroenterology and hepatology programs; they bring a deep understanding of your child’s condition and how it affects nutritional health. We support your child’s general nutrition needs during nutrition evaluations as well as specific issues, including maintaining a healthy weight, eating with prediabetes, food allergies, meeting nutritional needs with sports or with certain diets (vegan, vegetarian), and more.

Customized nutrition plans

Besides offering basic nutrition for children, we also provide highly specific nutrition plans designed for precise needs through our multidisciplinary Intestinal Rehabilitation and Nutrition Support program. These specialized physicians, dietitians, pharmacists, clinical nurse specialists, and social workers partner with families of children with complex intestinal needs that may demand enteral nutrition support (formula via tube feeding for easy digestion) or total parenteral nutrition (feeding that bypasses the gastrointestinal tract). The Intestinal Rehabilitation and Nutrition Support program collaborates closely with our Children’s Home Pharmacy to provide custom nutritional formulas for children and education for parents to deliver feedings at home. The program’s highly trained dietitians also advise families on the best food choices for conditions such as short bowel syndrome, gastroschisis, chronic dysmotility, congenital diarrheas, and others. In addition, dietitians with the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Center provide guidance on specific diets for Crohn’s disease and colitis.
