Neuroblastoma Program

At Stanford Medicine Children’s Health, we know that nothing is scarier than getting a cancer diagnosis. That’s why we’re here to fight by your side, every step of the way.

If your child is diagnosed with neuroblastoma—a rare, cancerous tumor—you’ll want to know that you have every possible therapy at your disposal. We offer a wide range of established and promising new neuroblastoma treatments, and our team works with every family to develop a personalized care plan that’s right for each patient.

Neuroblastoma treatment options depend on your child’s age, the location of the tumor, and whether the tumor has spread. Treatments can include surgery to remove the tumor, chemotherapy, radiation, and immunotherapy. Additionally, we are proud to be one of only two children’s hospitals in California that can offer 131I-MIBG therapy, a specialized form of radiation therapy that specifically attacks neuroblastoma cells.

Our researchers are also developing innovative new ways to treat neuroblastoma using your child’s own immune system. This approach, called cancer immunotherapy, gives your child’s immune system a boost so that it can better track and kill neuroblastoma cells. We are one of a few hospitals to offer a clinical trial using specially designed antibodies to target neuroblastoma, based on research conducted at Stanford. We are also the only hospital in California offering clinical trials using chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells to attack neuroblastoma.
