Teen Health Resources

Family PACT

Health insurance that covers free family planning services (birth control, condoms, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, etc.) for eligible low-income California residents, ages 12 and up. This program is available to young people in California regardless of their immigration status and without their parent’s permission or their parent being notified.

My Health My Info

Are you covered under your parent’s or someone else’s health insurance plan and want to keep an appointment private so they do not find out about it? This website helps you submit a “Confidential Communication Request.” You will need to know what health plan you have (Aetna, Kaiser, Blue Shield, etc.) and your policy number. You will receive a guide on how to call your health insurance company and make the request. The website will also provide you with a form to complete and send in.

Center for Young Women’s Health

Young Men’s Health

Award-winning health websites run by Boston Children’s Hospital for young women and men. The websites include information on health (sexual, emotional, nutritional, etc.), birth control methods, and specific medical conditions.

Minor Consent Medi-Cal program

This is a special type of Medi-Cal for teens under age 21 who live with their parent(s) and are low income. It includes the services that Family PACT covers (birth control, condoms, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, etc.), in addition to prenatal care, abortion services, mental health counseling, and drug and alcohol use treatment. You must apply in person at your local Human Services Agency (Social Services Agency) to complete the paperwork and an interview. You will receive your insurance card the same day. The insurance expires at the end of the month. If you still need services at the start of the next month, you must go back to the office and apply in person again. This program is available to young people in California regardless of their immigration status and without their parent’s permission or their parent being notified.

Applying to Medi-Cal and Covered California

Please check out this helpful guide on the steps to apply for Medi-Cal from the California Department of Health Care Services. Medi-Cal and Covered California use the same application.
