Fertility Research and Innovation

We are pleased to conduct meaningful fertility research so that we can improve your quality of care. We invite you to explore the chance of participating in a clinical trial that can offer you a innovative/new treatment option.

The role of research in cutting-edge fertility treatment

Many of our fertility doctors are actively engaged in research so that they can provide you with the latest care options. Research drives us to constantly ask ourselves: What is the best way to solve a given problem? What is the best fertility treatment for you, our patient? The ability to provide cutting-edge fertility care customized for you stems from a knowledge of the latest advances. It requires a willingness to challenge ourselves and ask why we choose a certain fertility treatment, what other options are available, and what we can do to optimize your fertility treatment and outcome. It makes for better, more targeted fertility care.

Conditions we research

To provide you with the best possible care, we study a wide range of fertility topics, including the following:

  • Genetic causes of infertility.
  • The how and why of endometrial disease and its impact of infertility.
  • Understanding recurrent pregnancy loss (including unexplained pregnancy loss, the role of the endometrial lining, the impact of fertility treatment on complications in pregnancy).
  • How to improve invitro fertilization.
  • Methods to keep embryos alive longer (in our In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) Lab).
  • How to evaluate the quality of embryos or recover the in vivo conceived embryos in a non-invasive way.
  • Better ways to measure the viability of sperm and egg to improve fertility.
  • The why and how of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

Fertility and reproductive health clinical trials and recent studies

Clinical trials are research studies that evaluate new medical approaches, devices, drugs, or other treatments. They are often cutting edge, giving you a chance to be one of the first to try them.

Stanford Medicine Fertility and Reproductive Health is currently conducting dozens of clinical research studies in reproductive medicine. Here are a few exciting ones:
