Thrive Program Care Team

Our multi-specialty Thrive care team includes experts in child and adolescent psychiatry and psychology, cardiology, critical care, fetal cardiology, neurodevelopmental care, palliative care, and several specialized support services.

Alaina Kipps, MD

Dr. Kipps is the co-director for the Heart Center’s Thrive Program. She is board certified in Pediatric Cardiology.

Lauren Mikula Schneider, PsyD

Dr. Schneider is the co-director for the Heart Center’s Thrive Program. She is a clinical pediatric psychologist and focuses on patients with heart failure, heart transplant, implantable cardioverter defibrillators, and ventricular assist devices.

Eliza Harley, PhD

Dr. Harley is a clinical pediatric psychologist for the Heart Center’s Thrive Program and focused on fetal cardiology and pulmonary hypertension patients.

Elizabeth Loi, PhD

Dr. Loi is a clinical pediatric psychologist for the Heart Center’s Thrive Program and focused on fetal cardiology and general cardiology patients.

Richard Shaw, MD

Dr. Shaw is a psychiatrist for the Heart Center’s Thrive Program. He is board certified in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Paula Tran, MD

Dr. Tran is a pediatric psychiatrist for the Heart Center’s Thrive Program. She is board certified in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

David Axelrod, MD

Dr. Axelrod is a pediatric cardiologist for the Heart Center’s Thrive Program. He is board certified in Pediatric Cardiology and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.

Meaghan Beattie, MD

Dr. Beattie is a key member of the Heart Center’s Thrive Program for outpatient and fetal cardiology. She is board certified in Pediatric Cardiology.

Michelle Brown, PhD

Dr. Brown is a psychologist for the Palliative Care program.

Meghna Patel, MD

Dr. Patel is a pediatric cardiologist for the Heart Center’s Thrive Program. She is board certified in Pediatric Cardiology and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.

Kathleen Ryan, MD

Dr. Ryan is a critical care medicine doctor for the Heart Center’s Thrive Program and the medical director for the Cardiac Neurodevelopmental Program. She is board certified in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.

Kelly Kirby, MSN, RN, CPNP-PC, PCNS-BC

Kelly Kirby is a cardiac neurodevelopment specialist for the Heart Center’s Thrive Program. She is a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (CPNP-PC) and she is board certified as a Pediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist (PCNS-BC).

Karen Jensen, LCSW

Karen Jensen is the lead social worker for the Heart Center’s Thrive Program.

Mariel Spengler is the lead parent mentor/adviser for the Heart Center’s Thrive Program.
