Specialty Services within the Outpatient Surgery Center (OSC)

Our Outpatient Surgery Center (OSC) is dedicated to select services that lend themselves to same-day surgeries, which can last from a few minutes to a few hours. The majority of ophthalmology (eyes and vision) and urology surgical procedures are performed at our OSC, as are most orthopedic and sports medicine, otolaryngology/head and neck (ENT), and other surgical services.

Common pediatric surgeries at the OSC include, but are not limited to:

Customized anesthesia plan and pain control

Our pediatric anesthesiologists are uniquely trained in making sure your child receives just the right amount of anesthesia for the procedure, and no more. Your child will be given some form of anesthesia or medication to block the pain of surgery. For the simplest procedures, a local anesthetic may be used. Or, your child may receive monitored anesthesia via IV sedation, regional anesthesia, or, for the most complex procedures, general anesthesia.

Easing anxiety with the CHARIOT Program

During surgery prep, our innovative CHARIOT Program (Childhood Anxiety Reduction through Innovation and Technology) uses new technologies to engage and distract children from the task at hand, including virtual reality experiences, tablet-based apps, and interactive bedside projector-based games. After surgery, our stellar nursing team tends to your child, welcoming your presence at the bedside.
