The team at the Betty Irene Moore Children’s Heart Center at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford has pioneered a unique approach to the management of complex pulmonary artery disease that includes complete unifocalization of collaterals and native pulmonary arteries and extensive arterioplasty out to the segmental level. Learn more about these techniques and results.

In patients with tetralogy of Fallot (ToF) with pulmonary atresia and major aortopulmonary collateral arteries (MAPCAs), single-stage complete unifocalization can be achieved in over 90 percent of patients and complete repair (with ventricular septal defect closure) is performed in two-thirds of patients during the initial operation, typically in the first year of life. This innovative approach offers outstanding results and considerable benefits. No other facility has the breadth of experience with these techniques and these patients than the Pulmonary Artery Reconstruction Program at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford.
