Esophageal Impedance pH Testing for Reflux

What is esophageal impedance pH testing?

Stanford Medicine Children’s Health is one of very few hospitals to offer esophageal impedance pH testing, the most accurate test for diagnosing reflux. A tube is placed through the nose and into the esophagus, and this allows doctors to measure the movement of liquid into the esophagus from the stomach. Among other things, this test allows doctors to catch other forms of reflux, such as bile, and it also allows doctors to test the correlation between symptoms such a heartburn and reflux levels in the esophagus.
