Nursing Shared Governance

Nursing Shared Leadership began at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford in 2006. The model has continued to grow and evolve and in 2017 it was redesigned to include all levels of nursing and our interprofessional team members. Shared Governance is a model for shared decision-making used among interprofessional teams. This decision-making process is based on partnership, equity, accountability and ownership of practice. It empowers all team members to have a voice in decision-making at their particular practice level and it encourages diverse and creative input to advance the missions and vision of the organization. Shared Governance provides mentoring and leadership development opportunities for members through project management and group decision-making.
