A part of our power is integrating research into our clinical care to offer your child advanced therapies that are not provided elsewhere.

We’re proud to be one of the largest pediatric multidisciplinary care centers in California to offer a full range of treatments for children from newborn to 18. Care highlights include:

  • Nationally ranked pediatric gastroenterologists. Nationally ranked in pediatric gastroenterology. We are ranked No. 8 nationwide, and top ranked in Northern California, in Gastroenterology and Gastrointestinal (GI) Surgery, by U.S. News & World Report.
  • Treatments for highly complex needs. We specialize in treating children with high-risk conditions who require multifaceted expertise and provide access to the most advanced liver support and heart care available in the country. Despite the fact that we see a large number of children with complex needs, our care outcomes are among the best on the West Coast.

That means you have access to top specialists and subspecialists throughout our system to complete your child’s picture of care, and to step in with tremendous skill when the unexpected happens.
  • Multilayered patient and family care. We combine innovative treatment approaches, including mind-body therapies, psychological support, and specialty care for specific conditions to provide your child and your family with deep support and healing.

Pediatric specialty programs

Under each specialty, we offer programs with experts who subspecialize in your child’s specific condition. Our specialty programs include:

  • Pediatric advanced endoscopy: Advanced endoscopy takes care a step further than diagnostic endoscopy in that it also treats certain conditions, such as pancreatitis and gallstones. Only specially-trained pediatric gastroenterologists, called advanced endoscopists, provide your child with advanced endoscopy. We are one of a few children’s hospitals in the nation to offer advanced endoscopy from pediatric endoscopists. Many hospitals rely on adult-trained gastroenterologists to perform these procedures on children. Our advanced endoscopy team includes GI bleeding experts who treat upper gastrointestinal bleeding with a multipronged approach. We provide standard esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) and colonoscopy along with the following advanced endoscopic treatments:
  • Pediatric endoscopy: A minimally-invasive procedure that uses an endoscope to diagnose or investigate parts of your child’s body without surgery. Our expert endoscopy center is dedicated to diagnosing pediatric patients of all ages in need of an endoscopy.
  • Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Program: This premier pediatric care program, provides evidence-based, family-centered, individualized, interdisciplinary, and one-of-a-kind care to children with pediatric IBD conditions.
  • Celiac Disease Program: Full-spectrum care and education around symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of pediatric celiac disease.
  • GI integrative medicine: The only pediatric integrative GI program on the West Coast to offer complementary therapies to medical interventions.
  • Pancreas Program: nationally recognized interdisciplinary team of experts dedicated to caring for children with chronic and acute pancreatic disease.
  • Esophageal Disorders Clinic: Specialized pediatric program that provides groundbreaking treatments for disorders of the esophagus, including motility problems.
  • Aerodigestive and Airway Reconstruction Center: Advanced, streamlined care for children with disorders of the airway, esophagus, and upper gastrointestinal tract.
  • Motility Program: Our comprehensive Motility Program diagnoses and treats motility disorders. As one of a handful of centers in the West, it offers a full range of manometry studies to evaluate the entire digestive tract.

Hepatology is the study, diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the liver, gallbladder, biliary tree, and pancreas. Our hepatology program offers access to specialized clinics, state-of-the-art research trials, and engagement in national societies for the advancement of care for pediatric patients. Examples of teams we partner with to care for a child’s complex needs include:

  • Alagille Syndrome Program: A top-three center in North America that brings together world pediatric Alagille experts to offer innovative and effective multiorgan treatments for this rare condition that often affects the liver.
  • Liver Transplant Program: A part of our top-performing national Pediatric Transplant Center, this dedicated program carries out more liver transplants than most or all centers in the western United States, with exceptional outcomes.
  • Single Ventricle Program: This deeply specialized program provides multidisciplinary, holistic care that optimizes health and well-being, empowering children with single ventricle anomalies to live their fullest lives. The Liver Care Center helps support children who have Fontan-associated liver disease.
